In order for our staff to operate efficiently and effectively, please take the time to be prepared when meeting with staff members so that the value of your time together can be maximized. You can often save a lot of time be searching through our website for answers to the most common problems.
Dr. Eric Flaim (Director)
- Scientific & Engineering Support
- Strategic Planning
- Finances
Background
With a PhD in analytical chemistry, specializing in fabrication of devices for non-labelled detection of biomolecules, Eric provides support to users and projects facing novel and complex fabrication and characterization challenges. While serving a dual role as the Director of nanoBridge, Eric helps users move from the laboratory to the market. While notoriously difficult to find in his office, he can regularly be spotted in the hallways of the nanoFAB working with staff and users. Email is by far the best method to contact him, where he claims a less than 24 hour response time, unless he is traveling. Test him!

Dr. Aaron Hryciw (Fabrication Group Manager)
- Scientific & Engineering Support
- Fabrication Fee-for-service Project Coordinator
- Electron-beam Lithography
Background
After receiving a PhD in physics from the University of Alberta, where he investigated applications of silicon-based nanocomposite materials for optical communications, Aaron cut his nanofabrication teeth as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. Returning to Edmonton, he worked as a research associate at the National Institute for Nanotechnology, designing and fabricating nanophotonic devices for optomechanical sensing and quantum information processing. At the nanoFAB, Aaron coordinates and oversees all activities of the fabrication group, including fee-for-service projects, collaborations, and user training, while also providing training and process support for electron-beam lithography. Whether you have a quick processing question or need guidance for a large project, feel free to send Aaron an email or drop by his desk to chat.
