UPDATE

We are extending the submission deadline by one week: submissions will now be accepted until December 7, 2018, with prizes announced by December 14, 2018.

General Information

Imaging is an important facet of any nanofabrication and characterization work, from determining the microstructure and composition of new materials to inspection and quality control during device fabrication. To highlight the excellent imaging work being done by our user community, the nanoFAB pleased to announce our second annual image contest. All nanoFAB users are invited to submit their most interesting images—whether from a technical or a purely aesthetic perspective—to the contest.

For the 2018 contest, the deadline for submissions is December 7, 2018; prizes will be announced by December 14, 2018.

Prizes

The prizes will be issued as gift cards to one of the following vendors (at each prize-winner’s discretion): iTunes Store, Google Play, Tim Hortons, Starbucks.

  • 1st Prize: $100 gift card
  • 2nd Prize: $50 gift card
  • 3rd Prize: $25 gift card

A panel of judges will select the winners, based on both a technical and an artistic point of view; the panel reserves the right to disqualify any entry that it believes has not conformed to the rules.

Submission Rules

  • Contestants must be registered nanoFAB users.
  • There are no restrictions as to acquisition technique: micrographs (e.g., optical, electron, ion, scanning-probe), macroscale photographs of specimens, and other imaging methods are all allowed.
  • There are no restrictions regarding subject matter, but the image submitted must involve nanoFAB equipment in some way, whether via fabrication and/or characterization.
  • Images must be submitted via an LMACS Request:
  • Use the Image Contest request type.
  • Upload the image file using the Add File(s) button (one image file per request).
  • In the Description field of the request, include the following information:
  1. A description of the specimen, including material(s) and research application
  2. Which nanoFAB tools were used in the fabrication and/or imaging of the specimen
  3. A caption to be used for display
  • Allowed image formats: TIFF, PNG, JPEG, GIF, PDF (max. file size = 10 MB)
  • Multiple entires may be submitted by the same user (in multiple requests).
  • By submitting an entry, the user grants permission to the nanoFAB to use the submitted image for promotional purposes, including publication online and/or in hard copy.
